Potowmack Preserve, incorporated as East Gate I of Potomac 1970, is a pioneering development of 159 contemporary homes nestled in a rolling terrain among stands of mature trees and a meandering stream. The community and its surroundings were featured in a 2015 ‘Where We Live’ article in the Washington Post.

Homeowners belong to the Potowmack Preserve HOA, an all-volunteer organization that manages the common resources for the community. The community has changed with the times but maintained its original character, due in part to covenants that require home additions and alterations to be in harmony with the neighborhood and restrict the felling of healthy trees. The stream and the surrounding area to the east are nature preserves within the county’s Buck Branch Stream Valley Park.

There is an abundance of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities. Buck Branch Neighborhood Park is immediately adjacent, and includes tennis courts, youth soccer field, and a playground. Cabin John Regional Park has trails, athletic areas, a nature center and more. The Tallyho Swim and Tennis Club, located next to Buck Branch Park, has heated pools, tennis courts, and a beach volleyball court. The public 18-hole Falls Road Golf Course is only a mile away.

The community is served by three nearby public schools – Bells Mill Elementary School, Cabin John Middle School and Winston Churchill High School. The neighborhood is close to major roads, with easy access to retail and dining at Cabin John Mall, Westfield Montgomery Mall and Potomac Village.
